Herbal Studies

This course offers an in-depth study of plants, including their edible, medicinal, and utilitarian uses. We will spend a significant amount of time wandering the hills and trails identifying and collecting plants. A significant amount of time is spent discussing medicinal plants and how they have been traditionally used by early Native American people as well as early herbalists. In addition, each student will learn how to make their own herbal first aid kit with salves, ointments, and tinctures, many of which we will make during the course. They will be yours to take home. We will also be creating natural insect repellents, a nice alternative to commercial products. Handouts and booklets will supplement the course material, so that you may continue to expand your herbal studies when you return home.
